This guy had tried to kill himself in the surf. I had a blanket around him and I sat opposite him. I felt a bit awkward and remember thinking what do I say to this man? He was cold and he looked absolutely shattered. So I sat beside him and put my arm around him and he started crying. I just listened. Sometimes it’s just about showing plain old compassion.
